Job Description
A General Worker in shipping construction is responsible for performing various tasks to aid in the construction, repair, and maintenance of shipping vessels. This role involves manual labor, working with tools and equipment, and following instructions to ensure projects are completed efficiently and safely.
Responsibilities
- Assist in Construction and Repair:
- Support skilled tradespeople such as welders, carpenters, and electricians.
- Help in the assembly and installation of ship components.
- Participate in the repair and maintenance of shipping vessels.
- Material Handling:
- Load and unload materials and equipment.
- Transport materials to and from work areas.
- Ensure proper storage and handling of materials.
- Site Preparation and Cleanup:
- Prepare work areas by cleaning, leveling, and organizing.
- Remove debris and ensure a clean and safe working environment.
- Dispose of waste materials according to company policies.
- Operation of Tools and Equipment:
- Operate hand and power tools as required for various tasks.
- Maintain and clean tools and equipment after use.
- Follow safety protocols when using tools and machinery.
- Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all safety guidelines and procedures.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the supervisor.
- General Labor:
- Perform various manual labor tasks such as lifting, carrying, and moving heavy objects.
- Assist in the erection and dismantling of scaffolding.
- Conduct routine inspections and maintenance of work areas.
Qualification
High school diploma or equivalent.
Skill & Experience
- Basic understanding of construction principles and practices.
- Ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
- Physical stamina and strength to perform manual labor.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
